Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship

The road to the Champion of Champions continues today with the running of the $150,000 Los Al Invitational Championship which goes as race 9. The champ Cold Cash 123 is back after a stylish win last out in the Go Man Go where he closed with a rush to win it late. He now gets an extra 40 yards to stretch his legs. Sounds like a lock, right? Well we will have to see what the three-time GI winner El Aguila Real has to say about that. The field also includes the talented Chivarly (first time Cruz Mendez & Jose Flores), Thisfeatureisspecial (second to Flame N Flash last out), Sparky E Boy (G3 winner at this distance & almost won the Champion of Champions last year) and others. It's a horse race and anything can happen.

Race 1:  1-7-2
Race 2:  3-4-5
Race 3:  8-4-5
Race 4:  5-6-2
Race 5:  3-6-7
Race 6:  7-4-2
Race 7:  7-3-1
Race 8:  5-2-1
Race 9:  3-2-1

My Plays:

$1 Early Pick Four ($36):  1 / 3,4,5 / 1,4,5,8 / 2,5,6

$1 Late Pick Four ($25):  7 / 1,2,3,6,7 / 5 / 1,2,3,6,7

Good Luck!

Qualifiers to Golden State Million Futurity

One Dashing Eagle stole the show this past Sunday night in the trials to the GI $1,118,000 Golden State Million Futurity by putting up the fastest qualifying time of 19.482 seconds for 400 yards. The $1.6 Million-earner has his sights on the on his third GI of his career. One Dashing Eagle is just getting better and he still is learning how to run straight. The final will be run on Sunday November 4 and I am looking forward to another smashing performance from the top 2-year-old in the nation.

Trials to $1,118,000 Golden State Million Futurity

It is a big night of eleven trials where 88 horses will sprint 400 yards in search of being one of the ten fastest qualifiers to race on the November 4 final. There some great bloodlines in many of the horses that are lining up tonight. The spotlight will be shining on the nation's top 2-year-old, winner of The GI Ed Burke Million & The GI All American Futurity, One Dashing Eagle. He will make his run in the 7th trial of the night. This should be a great night of racing so let's get to the selections and plays.

Race 1:  7-6-1
#7 Beg Stel Or Borrow - ran too good to lose in G2 Governors Cup when beaten a nose. Has good early speed and will try to hold them off late.
#6 No Wine too Fine - Invades from Remington Park off of two wins. Showed tremendous late kick two starts ago against a strong head wind to get up and win. Is asking for this 400 yard distance.
#1 Fast Moving Fire - I liked him last time at a price but got eliminated at the start. He gets the inside post and should be able to avoid trouble. Looking for a big effort here.

Race 2:  8-3-1
#8 Amore La Blue - all she did was put up the fastest 2yo time of year in her last maiden win of 15.29 seconds for 300 yards. Her dam was a champion, and now she is showing her talent. Watch out.
#3 Bullet in the Gun - second in good stakes last out. His stride suggests he will like this longer distance today and has some maintenance works since last seen.
#1 Chicks Gone - has shown a great improvement in his last three starts and comes off a maiden win in a trial. He was moving well late, will like the disatance.

Race 3:  1-3-5
#1 Watch Linda Ballet - her debut in May was outstanding and then came back to win a trial after a troubled trip. She ran a decent 4th in the GI Ed Burke Million and can still improve more. Watch her.
#3 Freakin Hot - his win last out is better than shown (gave me huge superfecta) when he rallied big for the win. If he breaks with the field we could see a huge performance at this distance.
#5 Tres Coronas Mas - If there is every a horse that looks like will love this distance is this guy. Encountered  trouble last out and closed with good energy to get second. Must use.

Race 4:  8-5-7
#8 Fires Blazin - would be undefeated if he had not run into One Dashing Eagle in his last two starts. He was a debut winner and has two good works since last seen and drew a good post.
#5 Viva La Blue - improving filly won in good time last out despite a slow start. She is by a champion sire and champion dam. Outstanding breeding and can only get better. Watch out.
#7 High School Secrets - gelding had two bad trips in his stakes competition has been freshened since July. His 17.90 workout shows he's feeling good and ready to go.

Race 5:  8-6-5
#8 Za Za La Blue - ran a good second in debut when beaten by #6. Her second start was a decent effort in a trial and now shows a blazing 17.5 workout.
#6 Starlite Delight - her first two stars were outstanding. She was fractious in the GI Ed Burke Million and did not run a good race. She is set to fire a big one tonight.
#5 Henoshersecret - never rallied after a tough break in last outing and is now looking to bounce back. Colt shows some maintenance drills for Jones and showed talent before.

Race 6:  4-5-1
#4 Als Big Hit - he is two for two in his career has a nice stride that suggests he will love this longer distance. His debut was solid and I am expecting a big effort once again.
#5 Cocoa Creme - arrives from Ruidoso Downs with a good resume. He was debut winner and has shown a liking for these longer distances. I like the workout of 17.8 that he posted locally.
#1 Scatmandu - he was one of the most impressive 2yo's on the ground here early in May. He qualified to the GI Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso and now is back to where he ran two big wins.

Race 7:  2-5-8
#2 One Dashing Eagle - top 2yo in the nation. A winner of the GI Ed Burke Million & GI All American Futurity. $1.6 Million dollars in earnings. Still learning how to run. Enough Said.
#5 Cartel Karma - Very good debut win for this filly but then reared up at the start of her last race to ignore. Has plenty of upside potential.
#8 Fit For Glory - shows a good 18.1 workout locally and arrives in good form from Ruidoso. The outside post gives him a good shot at stealing the race with his gate speed.

Race 8:  1-2-3
#1 Kat Quick - he defeated One Dashing Eagle in his debut two starts ago. Had a troubled trip in his last start and now arrives fresh and ready to go with a blazing 17.5 workout.
#2 One Famous Racy Lady - she was bet down to favoritism in her debut and delivered a winning effort in a good time. Her sire was a good runner and liked these longer distances.
#3 Bon Accord - he was a very good looking debut winner back in May. Has not been seen since that effort but it seems that Aleman has him ready by looking at his recent 12.1 workout.

Race 9:  5-7-8
#5 Corona For Miros - has improved more since joining the barn of Francisco Ramirez. I liked the way he was moving in his last win.
#7 Scoop Of Sunshine - His win last out is even more impressive due that he had to overcome some trouble to get the job done. Cesar De Alba is riding great since he came back.
#8 Tell of The Past - he already has a small stakes win under his belt and has good gate speed. The distance might be too far for him but he will try take them all the way.

Race 10:  7-6-8
#7 Flat Out Swingin - has been on a steady improvement against allowance competition. The distance should be no problem if he decides to run straight.
#6 Entrap - Trey Wood brings this runner from Ruidoso he last ran in some tough trials. His debut win was a good one and has the best last race number of the field.
#8 Jewel First Cat Sa - had seemed to had lost her focus but rebounded with a trial win last out after a small layoff. She gets the outside post once again and should be a contender to win it.

Race 11:  6-5-7
#6 Secretly Hot - she is already a G2 winner in her short career. She was favored last out in a trial but lugged out at the break and completely eliminated her chances. Expecting better effort.
#5 Gold Flames on Fire - was last seen in June when he ran third in the Ed Burke Juvenile. Has shown a tendency to lug in at the break but has a good late kick and should like this distance.
#7 Freakiest - I liked him last out but did not settle and lugged out. He has a chance of outrun his odds if he can get a good break.

My Plays:

Race 1--$1 Early Pick Four ($18):  1,6,7 / 8 / 1,3,5 / 5,8

Race 5--$5 Pick Three ($15):  8 / 1,4,5 / 2

Race 8--$1 Late Pick Four ($24):  1,2,3,4 / 5,7,8 / 6,7 / 6

Good Luck with your plays!

The $113,900 Los Alamitos Wild West Futurity

The two-year-olds take the spotlight tonight as a field of ten runners sprint 350 yards in the Los Alamitos Wild West Futurity in race 9. The two fastest qualifiers Margaritas N Coronas & Dynasty Red drew side by side and will break from post positions 1 and 2. It will be interesting to see if this turns into match race or if they compromise each other by being stuck on the inside. Let's see what happens.

Race 6:  6-5-1
#6 Trapped - stumbled badly in last race to ignore. His debut was very good considering he did not break all that well and finished nicely in good time. He is my best bet tonight, all he needs is a decent break.
#5 T Bone Jones - defeated #6 in last start when he was second while earning his best speed figure to date. He was one-and-one-quarter of a lengths clear of third place finisher who came back to win.
#1 Abeja Reyna - takes a small drop in class off a third place finish. Comes off her best effort in her career and retains the services of leading rider.

Race 7:  4-1-5
#4 Distant Fury - comes from Ruidoso where she faced GI competition in the Rainbow Futurity. She has shown talent in her four starts and will be tough here. Her Oct 4 workout is a tad slow though.
#1 Dreamnwideopen - comes off a third place finish in the fastest 2yo race of the year. Has consistently put up numbers that make her a contenter. Has a shot.
#5 Uzoom Corona - another Ruidoso invader from the Jose De La Torre barn. She showed improvement in her second start and has plenty of room to improve.

Race 8:  2-6-5
#2 Texas Time Bandit - was a solid second in a tough allowance last out and now takes a drop into the claiming ranks for the first time. Any of his efforts this year makes him a top contender here.
#6 This Partys Fire - He is making his 3yo debut here. He already has a third place finish in a G2 event here last year. Has never been worse than third in four starts and shows a good workout in preparation.
#5 Gone With a Win - broke is maiden at the bottom $2,500 claiming level and has beaten $10,000 claimers and also ran a good second against starter allowance foes. Stumbled last time out.

Race 9:  1-2-6
#1 Margaritas N Coronas - he is the fastest qualifier and has broken sharp the last two efforts. Comes off of his best race yet and seems to be getting better. Is already a 3-time winner in 8 starts.
#2 Dynasty Red - the second fastest qualifier. Did not break smoothly but still was able to win trial going away late. He ran second in a G3 event earlier in the year in Idaho. Has a chance.
#6 Checkspeed - has found his stride too late in his last two efforts and now looks to turn the tables on Margaritas N Coronas. If he gets a clean break he will mow them down late.

My Play:

$1 Late Pick Four ($24):  6 / 1,4 / 2,5,6 / 1,2,6,7

Good Luck with your plays!

Friday Night: Starter Allowance is the Feature

Hola Amigos,

The week of racing at Los Alamitos Race Course kicks off today with a nine-race card filled with the hard-knocking claimers throughout the night. The feature race tonight is a Starter Allowance event in race 8 where a solid field of runners will sprint 330 yards.

Saturday's card features the running of The $113,900 Wild West Futurity for 2-year-olds.

Sunday's card features 11 Trials to The $1,118,000 Golden State Million Futurity (GI). The trials are packed with great runners and it should be a competitive night of racing. All the focus will be on One Dashing Eagle (winner of GI Ed Burke Million & GI All American Futurity) who is the top-ranked two-year-old in the nation. He is back from Ruidoso Downs and is looking to be one of the ten fastest qualifiers that will be back for the final on November 4.

I will focus on the late pick 4 today. Let's get to the selections.

Race 6:  1-3-5    #1 had four race winning streak snapped last out. Has gate speed.
Race 7:  7-3-4    #7 finally gets off the rail post, will sit better trip. Jones on Thoroughbred.
Race 8:  6-7-2    #6 back against fillies, faced better competition in last Starter Allowance.
Race 9:  2-6-4    #2 one-and-a-quarter lengths clear of third place finisher last out.

My Play:

$1 Late Pick Four ($16):  1,3,4,5 / 7 / 6 / 2,4,6,7
$1 Late Pick Four   ($4):   1 / 3,7 / 6,7 / 2

Good Luck!

Qualifiers to the GI $1,000,000 Super Derby

The list of qualifiers is a talented and classy group of runners. Flame N Flash looked impressive in her trial win winning under a hand ride. Deniro and Hez Our Secret overcame slow starts to win their respective trials and should be considered top contenders for the final. Last to Fire showed the big run we knew he had and Do You Do Corona keeps on improving and can be a challenger to take it all. Every runner has a chance. Both trainer Juan Aleman and Jose De La Torre qualified three runners and jockey Francisco Rubio has three mounts to choose from in the final. It looks like two mounts will open up and I would imagine Jockeys like Eduardo Nicasio, Cruz Mendez, and Cody Jensen will be in search of obtaining those mounts. The final on November 3 is going to be a competitive one. Can't wait.

Super Derby Trials

We have a stellar group of twenty-nine runners in the four trials (races 6 - 9) to the Grade I $1,000,000 Super Derby at Los Alamitos Race Course. The ten fastest qualifiers will return for the final on Saturday November 3 when the winner will also earn a berth to the GI $750,000 Champion of Champions which is set to be run in December. The talent of the runners in each of these trials is impressive, you could easily confuse each trial as a stakes race on it's own. From a betting perspective, the four trials make up the sequence of the late pick four and the first trial is easily the most talented field of the four. Either you spread four deep with the top four betting choices in the first leg or you single and take a stand. I will single. Let's take a look at the races.

Race 6:  1-3-5
#1 Flame N Flash - just won the Millie Vessels in impressive fashion off a layoff since April of this year. She already has a berth to the Champion of Champions and makes a quick turn-around for these $1,000,000 trials. She was absolutely pulling Jockey Francisco Rubio out of the saddle last out. Single

#3 Do You Do Corona - I am just a fan of this hard-trying filly. She comes into this race off of her two best efforts of her career. She has a great late kick and if she can avoid bumping she can jump up and win.

#5 Terrific Synergy - Disappointed last time in the Go Man Go when fifth to the great champ Cold Cash 1 2 3. He tends to run lights out in trials so if he jumps up and crushes, I would not be surprised.

Race 7:  7-1-6
#7 Deniro - I was a little disappointed in his form at Ruidoso Downs this summer, but he is now back at Los Al where he ran great in his two starts here. Shows a good 18.0 workout and reunites with Adrian Loza.

#1 Kool Million - showed powerful win in stakes last out, has four wins and two seconds in six lifetime starts. He retains leading rider Cruz Mendez and drew a good post to avoid trouble.

#6 Hit It Big- was last seen running in the $2,000,000 Futurity last year, and now makes his 3yo debut in this race. Has plenty of upside potential and showed talent early in his career.

Race 8:  6-5-4
#6 Warm Form - registered and easy and powerful win last out after a layoff. That was her best race yet and now looks to carry her speed 50 yards more.

#5 Tres of Linda - big stakes win last out and is 2-for-2 since pairing up with jockey Rodrigo Aceves. She has terrific early speed and has proven to handle this 400 yard distance.

#4 A Mere Dynasty - encountered too much trouble in last race to ignore. Had a four-race win streak going on before last troubled trip and now looks to rebound with a clean break.

Race 9:  7-3-4
#7 New Look - Did not settle in last disappointing effort in the Golden State Derby. He is much better than shown and loves to win races. Rodrigo Aceves sticks and now knows what to correct from the last run.

#3 Hez Our Secret - comes off a second place finish in the All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs when second to the talented Ochoa. Has raced good at Los Alamitos before and his regular rider is aboard.

#4 Feature Miss America - she faced Flame N Flash, Warm Form, Hez Our Secret earlier in her career. She is only making her sixth lifetime start and has plenty of room to improve.

My Play:

$1 Late Pick Four ($30):  1 / 1,3,4,6,7 / 1,3,4,5,6,7 / 7

Allowance Saturday at Los Alamitos

As we await Tomorrow's card that features trails to the $1,000,000 Super Derby, we have a nine-race card tonight that has some future Stakes-type runners in the featured allowance event in race 8. The allowance is headed by recent rapid maiden winner Rlr Tres Premios who qualified to the G1 Kindergarten Futurity last year. He is the 8-to-5 morning line favorite and retains the services of leading rider Cruz Mendez in the field of six. The late pick four sequence looks like it might produce all favorites so I will tackle it with an economic $16 play.

Race 6:  1-5-6
#1 Md Chick Jumper - good third in last, makes 3rd start off of big layoff, has faced better.
#5 Mad Effort - makes 3yo season debut, comes out of key race where top 3 returned to win.
#6 Rgr Malcom - good 3rd at this level last out, trainer winning at almost 50% clip.

Race 7:  1-2-6
#1 Jessfirstsurviver -  takes small drop in class, is improving and only making 4th start today.
#2 Fm Sweet Corona - made debut in Idaho, now shows up here with a decent local workout.
#6 Bb Shinys Final Star - makes debut for Paul Jones, has good post and good workout.

Race 8:  1-2-6
#1 Rlr Tres Premios - strong win in 3yo debut last out, a repeat of effort wins here.
#2 Jakes Corona - earned a good figure when third in similar spot last out.
#6 How Bout This Secret -  has talent but always seems to find trouble at start. Needs alert break.

Race 9:  2-1-4
#2 Chitchattin Memories - ran 2nd in a G2 here in '11, drops into claiming for the first time.
#1 Corona Sugar - beaten a neck for the win at this level last out, he defeated next out winner.
#4 Seventy East - comes with back-to-back wins and goes up in class. Has improved each race.

My Play:

$1 Late Pick Four ($16):  1,4,5,6 / 1,2,3,6 / 1 / 2

Good Luck!

The Autumn Handicap

The week of racing at Los Alamitos Race Course kicks off with a nine-race card featuring the running of The Autumn Handicap, going off as race 9, where a field of nine two-year-olds will dash 350 yards.

This should set up for another great week of racing that features the trials to the Super Derby to be run on Sunday where twenty-nine runners will try to be one of the ten fastest qualifiers that will return to run the $993,000 final on November 3rd. The winner of the Super Derby will also earn a berth to the Champion of Champions in December.

Let's try to take down the late pick four today.

Race 6:  6-1-2
It's a tough race, you have some that just broke their maiden and improving but also others that are dropping in class. I'm pressing the all button in my pick four.

Race 7:  3-2-1
#3 Lonely Street - got a good second in 1st start locally, will improve off that outing.
#2 Siberian Ruble - broke maiden in 13th start, will need to duel off #1 on the inside.
#1 My Royal Night -  has speed to take control of race but not sure he can hold on.

Race 8:  6-2-3
#6 Eladins Dream - 3rd in debut when bumped. Expect big improvement with outside post.
#2 Clever Me - has shown talent at times but has not been able to win. Big class relief today.
#3 Class Jump - has trained good in Ruidoso, Lone Star, and here. Has good pedigree.

Race 9:  6-7-8     The Autumn Handicap 350 yards
#6 Sugarbear Sax Man - 2nd in last trial, third place finisher returned to win, good connections.
#7 Creole Williams - 2nd in a solid allowance last out, if he breaks with field it's over.
#8 Buy Buy - her gate speed from two & three starts ago can win it here.

My Play:

$1 Late Pick 4 ($24):  ALL / 3 / 6 / 4,6,7,8

Good Luck!

The Wild West Futurity Trials

The week of racing at Los Alamitos Race Course concludes tonight with the running of the trials for the $113,900 Wild West Futurity. A total of twenty-three runners will race in three trials (races 7-9) in search of being one of the top ten fastest qualifiers that will come back to race for the final on Saturday October 20. The trials will close out the night in what looks to be a very competitive late pick 4 sequence that should provide some great betting opportunities. Let's get to the selections for tonight's late pick 4.

Race 6:  1-5-6
#1 Lr Freezin - 2for2 lifetime, was pulling away in last win & now gets more distance.
#5 Sassy Cartel - has improved in each of her six races, repeat of last win would be tough here.
#6 Iba Dream Away - comes into this with back-to-back wins, takes a class hike for solid trainer.

Race 7:  2-8-1
#2 Checkspeed - had trouble in last 2nd place finish when inching towards the winner. The one to deny.
#8 Margaritas N Coronas - beat #2 in last start after good break, his gate speed is his advantage.
#1 Bf Memory Lane - 3rd in same race as #2 & #8. She can steal it form the rail post with good break.

Race 8:  1-2-6
#1 Dynasty Red - he comes out of good 3rd place in trials to PCQHRA Futurity, easier field here.
#2 Larryville - hard to ignore his 2for3 record, solid local 12.2 drill, big win two races ago.
#6 A Leprechaun - good second in local trial in last start, he can win if he breaks like last time.

Race 9:  6-4-5
#6 Eagle Nation - good final time when 2nd last out, has improved each start since joining this trainer.
#4 Furious Jess - had troubled trip in handicap last out, he already is a GIII winner, contender.
#5 Cruzn By - 2nd in Idaho Futurity last out, her gate speed is her weapon against this field.

My Play:

$1 Late Pick 4 ($24):  1,5 / 2,8 / 1,2,6 / 4,6

Good Luck!

10.06.2012

The PCQHRA Breeders Futurity (GII)

The 3-year-olds got to shine last night in the Derby and tonight the 2-year-olds will have the spotlight as they chase the $392,000 purse of the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity in race 9. But before the big one, a good field of six geldings will face off in the Whosleavingwho Overnight Handicap which goes as race 8 in the card at the distance of 350 yards. Both of these races complete the late pick four which has the potential to provide a great payoff tonight.
Race 6:  2-5-1
#2 Teller I'm Fast- comes off a layoff since May when competing in trials, good 12.40 drill.
#5 Tac It Like a Champ- good fourth in trial, effort two starts ago fits here.
#1 Sure Fire First - only making third lifetime start, showed improvement in last.
Race 7:  7-6-1
#7 Pied Diablita - lightly raced, is improving, should show more speed.
#6 Nicolina Gold - switches to aggressive rider, has efforts that fit here.
#1 Terri's Tryst - is improving with new trainer, not a tough field here.
Race 8:  1-3-4      The Whosleavingwho Overnight Handicap
#1 De Moss - solid 3rd beaten a head, might steal it from the rail.
#3 Costly Man - 2nd start off of 11 month layoff will benefit, only 7 lifetime starts.
#4 Significant Cartel - given a break since troubled trip in GIII, good 18.1 drill at this distance.
Race 9:  5-9-6     The PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity (GII)
#5 Jr Dynasty Mountain - took to Los Al in impressive trial win, can only get getter if he runs straight.
#9 Slightys Mac a Tac - talented filly has a great late kick, if she breaks with the field she can take it.
#6 Blackberry Czech - GII winning filly is a neck away from being undefeated, she loves to compete, talented.
My Play:
$1 Late Pick Four ($24):  1,2,5,6 / 7 / 1,3,4 / 5,9
Good Luck!

The PCQHRA Breeders Derby (GIII)

Another great weekend of racing at Los Alamitos begins tonight with the running of the PCQHRA Breeders Derby. A field of ten 3-year-olds will race 400 yards in search of the Grade III win and the winner's share of the $170,000 purse. The nine-race card tonight also features the Kip Didericksen Overnight Stakes and the Blane Schvaneveldt Handicap. The Los Alamitos Equine Sale is also set to take place this Saturday and Sunday in the sales venue across from the racetrack where some future Quarter Horse stars will be sold through the auction ring. I expect a good crowd and good pools in the pick 4's. Many things to look forward to so let's get to the plays and selections for tonight's card.

#1 Sweet Separations- last win was Feb '11 against $5k claimers, drops in class for live connections.

Race 9:  6-5-3     The $170,000 PCQHRA Breeders Derby (GIII) 400 yards
#6 Pony Drive- stumbled & rallied from tough post for 2nd place, can fire a big one with clean break.
#5 Ima Chickie Two- G2 winning filly has terrific gate speed that is dangerous, loves to win.
#3 Separate Thoughts- earned big number in last win, is improving and has two-race winning streak.
