Upsets from Around the world

Hola Amigos,

With the Dubai World Cup and the Santa Anita Oaks in the books, both won in upset fashion, the start of the card at Los Alamitos awaits us. As always we have some great pools in the pick fours and we have a good nine race betting card on tap. First post has been pushed back slightly today to accommodate the pick four to start after Santa Anita has concluded their card. Can the upsets and great payoffs continue at los al? Les get to it.

Race 1: Two deep in this race with #1 Dave Dave dropping in class of two strong efforts. Either one of his last two efforts would make him tough to beat in this spot. Top pick however will be #4 Jess Good To Be Me. This runner has been given a small break since January and comes in fresh while taking a drop in class into maiden claiming for the first time. In his last start he stumbled badly and lost all chance.

Race 2: Obvious favorite and dropper from Golden Gate will be #4 Black Wildcat for the Paul Jones barn. Also going to use #5 Sommstar who is a first time starter with some decent drills for trainer Charles Treece with good apprentice Juan Sanchez riding.

Race 3: This thoroughbred event seems the most wide open race in the sequence with many runners with good form and good numbers. Going four deep with #1 Smoking Motion (second off layoff, dropping in class, good speed), #2 Fast Tracking (first off claim, hot connections, good win two back), #4 El Valentin (good effort last out at same level), and #6 C'Mon Marquis (first off claim, with a a third and a win in two starts at los alamitos).

Race 4: Two deep to close out the pick four play with #1 Painted Ocean who is intriguing considering he is coming first off the claim for trainer Paul Jones (rarely dabbled into claiming stock, only top quality runners) and win two back fits at this level. Top pick will be #2 Louisiana Flush who just keeps giving consistent efforts with that big closing kick.

$32 Pick Four Play: 1,4/4,5/1,2,4,6/1,2

Good Luck!

Short Friday

Hola Amigos,

We start a week of racing here at Los Alamitos with a short eight race card. Even though the card is a little compressed, it looks like some opportunities to beat some favorites today and get some good payouts.  Lets get to it.

Race 1:Two deep to begin my early pick four play with #3 Warrensmysterydice who has improved numbers in each start under this trainer while capturing three seconds and one third in last four starts. Also using #5 Zolazane who is making second start at los alamitos and second start off a layoff. Taking the blinkers off might help regain that past speed (top pick).

Race 2: Three deep in this second leg with #1 Mayla Bonita who ran a great second last out, #2 Rgr Famous Six who has been consistent, and #5 Precious Caitlynn who has some pat efforts that put her in the mix (top pick).

Race 3: The single in this race is #4 Golden Gab who ran a decent third against much tougher last out and now drops in class. Good stalking speed should have this runner in perfect spot down the backstretch.

Race 4: To close out my play I will use the top four contenders that I be live have a chance to win #2 I lead u Follow, #4 Dave Dave (Top Pick), #5 Anna's Babe, and 6 Merc Cruiser.

$24 Pick four Play: 3,5/1,2,5/4/2,4,5,6

Good Luck!

Rain Rain Go Away

Hola amigos,
It is a cold, windy, and rainy afternoon here in Southern California as we speak. As we have close to an hour and a half until first post at Los Alamitos, the rain has intensified in the last hour. We have some solid fields lined up for a good nine race card. Lets get to it.

Race 1: I am going four deep in this race and shooting for a slight upset of the favorite. Using #1 Blues Man Too You who has been consistently knocking at the door, #2 Andrews Walking who is only making third lifetime start, #3 Hawking Straw who is deserving favorite off of debut effort and #5 First Valentine who had a rough trip last time out (Top Pick).

Race 2: Two deep to cover this race. #2 Catalina Czech has become a great gate horse as she has broken on top of the field in her last two starts. She has suffered some tough losses in her last two starts but with another good effort she should be right there. I like the first off the claim and new rider (Top Pick). Also using #4 Tax Dirty To Me who just ran a gusty effort against tougher while the winner of that race came back to win impressively.

Race 3: My single of this pick four play comes in this leg. I love #6 In A Separate Class in this spot and the outside post can only benefit. Drops in class. Expect a good effort.

Race 4: Two deep to end the ticket with the inside and outside horses. #1 Man Of Man takes a big drop in class in search of a better effort and better trip. However my top pick will be #8 Don't Ya Wish who is a consistent runner against solid competition.

$16 Ticket: 1,2,3,5/2,4/6/1,8

Good Luck and Lets get some winners home!

Can We Get The Technitian

Hola Amigos,

We are back after a Friday night of racing that was filled with low price winners but somehow the pick six last night still paid over $3,000. Good Saturday card tonight with an early first post of 5pm. Don't get shut out. Lets get to it.

Race 1: I will single #5 LV Amada First off that solid debut. This filly broke on top of the field last time out and gave it a good effort while tiring late. Second time improvement expected and should be enough to get the job done if she breaks on top again.

Race 2: Going three deep with #1 Imrockin, #3 Runaway Corky and #5 Calvary Scout (top pick).

Race 3: I like the past class and speed of #1 Technitian so I will single here also.

Race 4: Since the ticket is playing out small, I will just press the All button and cover this race and hope we get a big price to end it out.

$18 Pick Four Play: 5/1,3,5/1/All

Good Luck!

Kellys Lass One More Time

Hola Amigos,

Racing Action is back tonight at Los Alamitos. Good competitive card tonight and both early and late pick four pools keep getting larger and offering some big payouts. There is also a nice one day carry over in the pick six of almost $5,000. All we need is a couple beaten favorites and we are on our way to some good payouts. Lets get to the early pick for play.

Race 1: #4 Kelly's Lass I cannot get away from you. I have singled this filly in two of her last three starts and has been close to getting the job done. Once again she finds a field she can beat and I expect her to be the second or third betting choice and I am going to single her again. Don't fail me now.

Race 2: #7 Legions showed a good debut effort last out. This gelding broke slow and then was rushed up and asked vigorously by the rider. He dueled for the lead outside the leader and put pressure until drifting out in the lane and getting tired. He now gets a hot riding apprentice with a weight break. I expect improvement and a big effort. Tough to deny. Single

Race 3: I am going four deep in this race with #2 Ditch This Corona who takes the blinkers off for owner-trainer Paul Jones, #3 Bonos Biking Babe who ran a good second last out, #6 Chicks Moran who goes for a new trainer and shows a decent workout, and #7 Go Class Go who comes off a good win and draws a good outside post.

Race 4: I can make a case for almost all runners so I am pressing the all button.

$24 Pick Four Play: 4/7/2,3,6,7/All

Good Luck!

El Primero Del Año

Hola Amigos,

Cold and Windy day out here in Southern California. Tonight we have trials of the El Primero Del Año Derby at Los Alamitos. Good nine race card on tap let's get to it.

Race 1: I rarely do this but I am going to use the two obvious favorites with #1 Our Senior Moments and #4 Fast Tracking. Hard to separate them. I don't really do this because I don't really find the value of doubleing the price of your ticket when both horses are going to provide close to the same kind of payout. I usually always take a stand in this situation and single. Unless, you have a good price single in the other legs and dont want to miss one of the other races.

Race 2: I think we can get a price in this second leg and I will be using #2 Solo Contessa, #3 Ms. Margaritaville, #4 House of Crystal and #6 Delias Valentine.

Race 3: This is where I like a single that could go off at a price. #4 Chocolate Caliente comes first off the claim for a new barn that does well with new acquisitions and this horse has some good speed.

Race 4: Three deep to close out my play with #2 Famous Fury who almost got the job done last out, #4 Tabasco Special dash who shortens up in distance and that might be the key (top pick) and #6 Stray Cat.

$24 Pick Four Play: 1,4/2,3,4,6/4/2,4,6

Good Luck!

La Primera Trials Night

Hola Amigos,

Its a cold and rainy Saturday here in southern California. We have trials to the Grade I La Primera Del Año tonight here at Los Alamitos later in the card with a nice pick six Carry over of over $20,000 which starts in race 4. I will have my pick six play on my twitter feed later tonight since I will take into account how the track is playing after the first few races are run. Sloppy track is expected. Lets get to the early pick four first.

Race 1: I like #4 A Mere Toast in this race. She goes for a new bard first off the claim and if she makes a slight improvement she could be long gone. Single.

Race 2: #4 Check Merri Out ran too good to lose last out by a nose. She takes a small drop in class and is back at same distance. Single.

Race 3: Four Deep with #3 Special Lenee, #4 Warrens Prince, #7 El Jerente, and #8 Platinum Time (Top Pick).

Race 4: To end the pick four ticket I will go three deep. With #2 Eye for Fdd who is dropping off a GI race, #3 First Element who drops off the 151k Maiden Stakes after getting a horrible trip and my top pick #6 Venado Love who comes off a small freshening and should fire a good race.

$12 Pick Four: 4/4/3,4,7,8/2,3,6

Good Luck!

Focused Friday

Hola Amigos,

It is finally Friday. We kick off the week of racing tonight at Los Alamitos with a good betting card that features nine races. The best bets in night racing (the pick fours) , keep getting better with bigger pools week after week. Tonight's card also features a nice pick six carryover of almost $10,000 which i am going to take a shot at. Last Sunday I caught some good prices on the card but was not able to take the pick six down. All it takes is a few beaten favorites and you are on your way to collecting a big pay day. Let's get to it.

Race 1: Single to start with #6 Dynasty Beach. This gelding ran a good second at this same level last out while only making his second start off a layoff. I think he gets the job done here.

Race 2: Going two deep with the always consistent #1 Mayla Bonita and #3 Rgr Famous Six. Both of these geldings dead-heated last time out for show in a starter allowance race.

Race 3: I can make a case for all runners. All.

Race 4: This race concludes the early pick four and it also begins the pick six. I am going to single right off the gate with #9 Panchos Last Pie. This filly's last out can be crossed out completely since she had an ugly break and the race was over from there. Her race two back puts her in the mix and the outside post should give her an opportunity for a clean break.

Race 5: Two deep in this race for me. Using #3 Impregnable but not because i like him but more because im scared of him. He is dropping in class and gets a hot apprentice rider with a good 10lb break. I do think he is the speed of the field but he needs an easy lead in order to win. He will probably get pressure from the rail horse and if that happens, i love #6 Atlantra's Tantrum to get a perfect stalking trip to win in the stretch.

Race 6: This race starts the late pick four. My second and last single of my pick six play comes in this race by the way of #5 Argyll Lad. This gelding is lightly raced, four life-time starts, and his win last time out here at los alamitos was in a very good time for the level. He goes first off the claim for a new trainer and gets a rider that is currently second in the thoroughbred standing. There is not alot of speed lined up so maybe he could take the lead of come right off the pace like he did last time in his win.

Race 7: This is a tough race and i will be using three horses in this field. #2 Fireman Dave showed a good closing kick to get up and beat a fast breaker in his last start and he is my top pick off that effort. #3 Solo Senor is my second pick here coming off just a maiden win but the runner up returned to win after that last start. In addition, the running figure he posted and the final time fit very well at this level. Closing my ticket in this race is the deserving favorite #6 La Plata Man who is dropping off much tougher allowance field and gets a good outside post.

Race 8: Two deep in this race. Top pick will be #1 Sheza Fast Habit. When this filly breaks, she either wins or runs 1,2,3. I will give her one more chance from the rail post to break and run a good one. Also using #3 Oh La Traffic, this filly is making second start off the layoff and she faced some classy fillies last out.

Race 9: Two deep to close out my plays. #3 Talladega drops out of a starter allowance race and gets reunited with the rider of his only win (Rodrigo Aceves). Also using the Paul Jones trained #5 Wave Over Phoebe who comes out of the same allowance race and her race two back against a strong head wind looks good.

$14 Early Pick Four: 6/1,3/all/9

$48 Pick Six: 9/3,6/5/2,3,6/1,3/3,5

Good Luck!

No Lucy For Loon Lost to Worry

Hola Amigos,
It is a nice Sunday today with beautiful weather in orange county to close out the week at Los Alamitos. We have some good pick four sequences tonight. I have a nice 8-1 single for the early pick four. Lets get to it.

Race 1: We are going to open up the pick four by going three deep in this leg. Using #1 Mama's Stroker who has been improving and recently finished second. Also using #4 Surround who is dropping from golden gate and shows two works over the los al surface. Finally using #7 Laiken's Legacy who made her debut last time and ran a good third. She should improve this time out.

Race 2: Going another three deep in this event with the dropper #3 Sea Viper, the speedy #4 Dr Tong and the stalker #6 Tom's Lightning.

Race 3: I love #3 Loon Lost in this spot. This mare does not need to worry about Sister Lucy being in this race. She has shown terrific closing kick in all her starts for this trainer and I expect her to fire right back. I envision her to close into a fast pace with horses that should slow down in the lane.

Race 4: I am going four deep to close this pick four play. I am using the four outside runners who all show some good figures to get the job done. #3 Runaway Corky, #4 Hez Got Energy, #5 A eg Corona Dash and Top pick #6 Lord Azoom.

$36 Pick 4 Play : 1,4,7/3,4,6/3/3,4,5,6

Good Luck and lets get some winners.

Join me on twitter @LosPonies and look out for a late pk4 play with a good 9/2 single that I like.

Running Bufalo

Hola Amigos,

Its San Felipe Saturday across town where Creative Cause just won at Santa Anita defeating Bodemeister. Congratulations to all connections. Let's hope tonight's pick four at los alamitos is not as chalky as last night's. Let's get to it.

Race 1:  Three deep in this event with the first time starter #2 Jazzy Til with some decent works, the dropper and freshened horse #4 Mongoose Snow Hawk, and the now or never horse #6 Jayces Ace.

Race 2: All Button. No Opinion.

Race 3: Singled to #6 Runs For Cash. beat numbers and good outside post.

Race 4: Two deep to close out my pk4 with top pick #1 Bufalo Runner who is making her first start since December and shows a good work leading up to this. Also using the always consistent #4 Saraccuda.

$36 Play : 2,4,6/All/6/1,4

Good luck and lets get some winners.

Short But Competitive Friday

Hola amigos,

Es Viernes! (It's Friday). The week of racing at Los Alamitos starts tonight with a first post of 7pm pacific. Although the early pick four only has six runners in each race, there seems to be at least four contenders to win in each race. Small but competitive fields are on tap and the pick four pools are bigger than ever here at the orange county oval. Let's get to it.

Race 1: In the opening race I am going two deep. #2 Whizer is rounding into form and last time out got second against a solid horse that was dropping from Golden Gate fields. Has enough speed to stay close withing striking distance. Top pick will be #3 I told You Twice. This gelding goes second off the claim for a trainer that wins his fair share of thoroughbred races. This field is lacking speed and this horse can show much better speed with a 10lb apprentice on board.

Race 2: Three deep in this event with #1 Spot of salt who already has 2 wins from 3 starts at los alamitos and goes first off the claim for trainer Charles Treece who is winning at 37% with that move. Top pick is #2 Wakan Tanka who comes off two back to back second place finishes in fast races. Also using #4 Ritzville who is slightly dropping in class to a level he ran second to races ago to a sharp winner who returned to win.

Race 3: I am going two deep in this race with the closer #2 seafire and the speed #6 Bev's Ex who is also dropping in class.

Race 4: Two deep to close out my pick four with top pick being #1 Just Charmed who should get a nice stalking trip behind the speed. The sharp horse is #3 You Bettor Beware who is coming into this race with three consecutive wins in strong efforts.

$24 Play of : 2,3/1,2,4/2,6/1,3

Good Luck!

Big City Slicker to repeat

Hola Amigos,

A great day of racing across town is under way right now with the Santa Anita Handicap about to be contested in about an hour. There has been some good prices across town so lets hope we can get some prices home at los alamitos tonight. Lets get to it.

Race 1: I am going to single in this first leg of the pick four with #3 Big City Slicker. This gelding comes off a good looking win and takes a slight jump up in class which seems reasonable. I envision him showing his usual early speed and gaining control of the pace early on. Trainer is hitting lights out with his thoroughbred runners this year so far with 6 winners from 11 starters. I like the low profile rider to get a better price than some other horses.

Race 2: In this field I can make a case for every runner so I am going to press the all button.

Race 3: Three deep in this event. Using #2 Now what who is much better than his last race. With a better break, we could see a big performance. Top pick. Also using #4 Features Gift who ran a big effort last out at big odds and should improve making his third start off a layoff. Closing out with #5 Cajun Mountain Gal who never got a decent trip last out to show her run. Her race two back was very good considering the runner she beat off a long layoff.

Race 4: Two deep to close my ticket with top pick #5 La Barbara who never got to stretch her legs last time and should be much better than that line indicates. Hot riding Cruz Mendez sticks. Also using #9 Snowbound Jeffrey who is dropping to the bottom and it seems to be now or never for this gelding who has some back class.

$36 Play: 3/All/2,4,5/5,9

Corona City is My key

Hola Amigos,

It is friday which means the start of the racing week here at los alamitos. The early pick four today looks tremendous. We have some great competitive fields in each of the four races that encompass the early pick four (races 1-4). My single in my play today will be in the third race by a runner named Corona City. Good weather here in southern California which make it a great night of racing. In contrast, very ugly severe weather going on today for much of the midwest with racetracks cancelling cards and simulcasting. Hope everyone stays safe out there and nothing major happens. Keep Warm. Let's get to it.

Race 1: Four deep in this event with two first time starters #3 Hawks on Phire and #8 Hawking Straw who both show some solid drills for their first career start. Also using the second-time starter #7 Andrews Walking who showed a good run last out in a third-place showing and should improve. Closing out the ticket with #6 First Valentime who switches to a new trainer and retains leading rider and has some good numbers to put hiim in the hunt,

Race 2: I am using the two obvious favorites in #2 Dave Dave and #7 I lead U Follow on the outside. However my top pick will be #5 Rgr Jungle Jock who stumbled badly last time out and the jockey wrapped him up immediately after that. He never got to show his run and with a second start off a layoff and a second start under the lights at los alamitos, he could win at a price.

Race 3: This is my single #4 Corona City. This gelding has shown good runnings in all four of his starts. This barn and jockey are due to get hot. In his last out he beat a real good runner who came back crush in his next start.

Race 4: Four deep to close out  my pick four play with #1 Gimme Corona, #2 Man of Mine, #4 Flippin Sweet and #8 Caught Stealing.

Good Luck!

$48 Pick four Play : 3,6,7,8/2,5,7/4/1,2,4,8
