Santa Anita: Road to the Kentucky Derby

If you are at Santa Anita Park for the Chandelier Room event (santaanita.com/events) you will receive this tip sheet. If you are not on site, well, here you go.

The Robert B. Lewis (Race 4) has a field of seven 3-year-olds looking to stamp their names on the road to the Kentucky Derby but in my opinion, I don't really see a strong Kentucky Derby-type candidate in this bunch.

Saturday's card at Santa Anita will see the return of the Champion 2-year-old filly Songbird in the Las Virgenes Stakes (Race 5) where she completely towers over her rivals on paper. It will be interesting to see how she does in her first race as a 3-year-old.

The San Antonio (Race 7) is wide open to me and I think any of them can win it. I like the invader Donworth so if he goes off at anything higher than his morning line odds then I'll probably make a good win bet there.

The San Marcos (Race 8) looks like a race for some prices. I really like my top two picks there and that's definitely going to be a key race for me on the day.
