The Grade I $500,000 Los Alamitos Futurity highlights the closing weekend of the ignaugural winter thoroughbred meet at Los Al. Although the field is only a compact group of five, it attracted the buzz horse of the moment: Dortmund.
Other than traffic trouble or a major stumble, it's tough to imagine Dortmund getting beat. He looks like a future superstar.

I like that he's making his second start off the layoff and is switching back to a dirt surface. He's been training locally over this Los Al surface and there seems to be enough speed in this race to set up his off-the-pace kick.

Sunday is closing day of the thoroughbred meet at Los Alamitos and then the circuit moves to Santa Anita Park for their opening day on December 26.
The year-round 2013-2014 Los Alamitos Quarter Horse evening meet also concludes on Sunday and then a new 2014-2015 Quarter Horse meet begins on December 26 with a first post of 7pm.
