All Thoroughbred Early Pick Four

The racing week kicks off at Los Alamitos Race Course tonight with an 8-race card that features a total of five thoroughbred & three quarter horse events. The early pick-4 is composed of four thoroughbred events that look to have good competitive fields. I expect a good early pick four pool to begin the night. I was not able to find any singles for the early pick four on my ticket so i will tackle it with a $36 play.

My best bet of the night is in race 6, #1 Fast Tracking. This gelding ran too good to lose last out when second at the $5,000 level. He has eight wins from 16 starts here at Los Alamitos and takes a small drop in class to the $4,000 level. Also take note that Ramon Guce, who was aboard two of his last four wins, is back in the saddle tonight. Hope we get all of that 5-to-2 morning line.

Trials to the El Primero Del Año Derby

Tonight's card at Los Alamitos features trials to the $205,900 El Primero
Del Ano Derby. A total of 24 horses in four trials (Races 6-9) will sprint 400yards in search of being one of the ten fastest qualifiers that will return to run in the final on Sunday April 7.

The trials will feature Freedom Choice who posted the fastest qualifying time to last year's Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Other runners that will catch some attention are Mr. Ease Cartel, Perrys Affair, Sugarbear Sax Man and A Regal Hawk.

The four trials make up the late pick four. Let's get to the selections.

No More Seconds

The Saddling Paddock at Los Alamitos Race Course

That's my mission today, no more seconds. On Friday night I was alive in the payoff leg of the late pick-4 and I ran second. On Saturday I was alive in the payoff leg of both the early and late pick-4 and I ran second in both races. That's three consecutive pick-4's that have escaped me by the smallest of margins and hope to get end the week today with a pick-4 score.

Alex Jimenez rode today at Santa Anita after the spill last night at Los Al. I still have not been able to get an update on Efrain Hernandez other than he is off all mounts tonight. Let's hope his injuries are not serious.
