Hola Señor Toby

Hola amigos,

Back tonight after last night's monster payout of over $27,000 (We missed 3/1 shot BF Farm girl) in the late pick 4 in which our top pick in race 8 (20/1 ML) won easily and qualified with the fastest time for the finals of the Grade 1 Winter Derby for trainer Ugo De La Torre. Again tonight's late pick 4 looks to be the play of the night and will concentrate on that one. First small early pk4. Lets get to it.

Race 1: Using #1 I will rise who shows a good workout and also using #2 Argyll Lad which is dropping in class from across town and should be a super short price.

Race 2: Singling #6 Bonos Lucky Jeans which shows some good figures in her last two efforts and the outside post should benefit her.

Race 3: This about as easiest of 2,000 claiming fields you are going to have. #1 Cabo San Lucas drops and seems to be the lone speed. Just hope Cheryl gives this gelding a breather and does not burn him out. Single.

Race 4: If the pick 4 is going to pay anything at all, it comes down to this leg. I will use #1 Alphonso and #3 Serious Form who can strike at a price.

$4 Ticket : 1,2/6/1/1,3

Late pick 4:

Race 6: Three deep to start off this last pick 4. Using #2 Noconi which is a deserving favorite off of class experience, #3 Eddie Ray Vaughn who is dangerous at a price (top pick), and #6 Life's Been Good who is a consistent performer against tough competition.

Race 7: Senor Toby had a perfect season last year capping it off with power full wins. He has shown a great late kick and this distance should benefit him. Single.

Race 8: This is a solid group of horses lining up in this trial. Will be using #2 Regina Del Fuego, #5 Dash Back Perry, and #7 Pk Fire (Top Pick).

Race 9: Is a bottom level claimer which is wide open. We will go four deep to end our ticket. Using #2 Rgr Famous Six, #4 Jump Gun, #5 I'm a Disaster, and #6 Ditched this corona.

Illegal Smile is the Key

Good late pick 4 on tap for tonight at los alamitos. The first three legs feature some good horses in search of spot in the starting gate for the Grade I Finals of the Winter Derby.

Race 6: Right off the bat we are going to single #2 Illegal Smile. This 3yo gelding has shown powerfull wins at times while pulling away at the end. Tonight he gets more ground to cover which should be a benefit to this guy. His last win was visually impressive after a horrible start and a tremendous late kick to get up and dead heat for the win. If he breaks with the field he should be long gone. He is 7/2 on the morning line and hope we get every bit of that price. Single.

Race 7: A great field is assembled in this trial. We are going five deep to cover the race and try to get a price home. Using #1 Driving Miss Dazie, #3 Natalie Dash, #6 So pin About First, #7 Tres of Linda, and #8 Zoomdasher.

Race 8: Two Deep in this trial with the deserving favorite #4 Check My Thoughts who comes off a second place finish against a good runner (Kobe), the extra yardage should be no problem for this guy. Also using #8 Deniro which invading from Prairie Meadows. He has shown ability and comes into the race with overall good form and a nice local work. Gets a good outside post and hails from connections that are dangerous at a price.

Race 9: Closing out the night is a bottom level claiming race at 300 yards. We are using the top three betting choices which are #2 Cashs Version, #3 Oops Imbreakingground, and #4 Featured Glory.

Chasing the Carryover - Los Al Edition

Taking a shot at the $18,000 pick six carryover tonight with a $48 play. Lets get to it:

Race 4: 1,3,4,7
Race 5: 4
Race 6: 1,4,6
Race 7: 3
Race 8: 4,6
Race 9: 1

Race 5: Single #4 Thinking of you, this mare showed good speed last time out at this level after a layoff since June of 2011. She had the lead entering the turn and was pushed wide into the lane and tired in a better than looked comeback. With a race under her belt she should be much better suited.

Race 7 : Single #3 Tuneful which is making a big drop to the bottom level after a third place showing last out and getting bumped hard at the break. Drops to win.

Race 9: Single to close out the card with #1 JMJ Chick  who is coming off a claim at the 4,000 level and drops to the 2,500 level and any of her races should should win this event. Trainer does good first off the claim.

Good Luck!

One more try for the Princess

Hola Amigos, Tonight's Card features a nice pick six carryover that has been waiting for us since Sunday. Good 9 race card on hand with the pick six sequence beginning in race 4 with an evenly matched field. The early pick 4 as always comes with a nice pool and some good payouts almost every night. Let's get to it:

Race 1: Princess, don't fail me again. Last time out #2 Princess Ryan was our single in a similar spot and a bad break cost this filly the race. She flew for second money beaten less than a length at the end. Today she comes off the claim for new trainer Charles Treece and leading jockey Ramon Guce takes the call. Hoping for a better break to get us home with a single.

Race 2: This race seems pretty wide open but most of the field seems to be in the mid price range so I don't think there is value in going all since most horses will be around the same price in the pick4. Therefore, I am going to take a stand and single #4 Paparritos. This has shown ability in all of his 5 lifetime starts and only on of his outings has been off the board due to an extremely slow break. Last time out he faced a similar field from the rail post and lugged in at the break but still managed to rally from tough placing and finish second by a a nose. Like his post and with a good break should be tough to deny. Single.

Race 3: This race we are going to hope for a pace duel and meltdown from the the three favorites on the outside positions and hope one of the longshots moves them down late. All button.

Race 4: Good evenly matched field to start the pick six and end the pick4. I am going to go Four deep to cove this race. We are using #1 Kish Kish which had a powerful win two back but got a bad trip last out. Also using #3 El Jerente which is switching to a new trainer which does excellent with new acquisitions and this gelding's race two back puts him in the mix. Another longhshot we like is #4 Chulo J who had two back to back wins last time out but got bumped early and cost him all chance. Finally rounding out our ticket with #7 Scare Down. This horse has shown tremendous closing kick in his last two races which resulted in wins. He comes back at the same level of the win last out and if he can break with the field once again, he will be tough to deny down the lane.

Better Break for Bri's Beau

Hola Amigos,
Tonight we are going for the 4 B's. Better Break for Bri's Beau. He will be our key for this pick 4. So we will know the fate of our play early on since he runs in the first leg. Great night on hand for tonight's racing at los alamitos. Let's get to it.

Race 1: #4 Bri's Beau broke terribly slow in his debut and was unhurried after that. Despite that slow break he showed great run and flew to get second place. With a race under his belt and his second start he should improve and run much better. Hoping for more speed to stay close to the pace this time out and good trip. Single at a bit of a price.

Race 2: This race looks wide open to me. This evenly group of thoroughbred make this second leg a tough one to disect. You could make a case for each of them so I am pressing the All button and hoping for a price.

Race 3: Two deep in this third thoroughbred event. Top pick will be #2 Alpine nugget. He always seems to be in he hunt of things in all his races. He has enough speed to be on or close to the lead and can make pack a finishing punch too. Also using #4 Wylie n Wyatt who is making his second start at los alamitos. In his first start here from across town he dropped in class and showed a powefu stride in a good looking win. He then went up in class and finished 6th beaten 4 lengths. He drops in class back to his winning level and is dangerous.

Race 4: We are going to close it out with two horses in the final leg. Using #1 Sunbeamsperfectroyal which just ran too good to lose last time out beaten a nose at this same level. The winner of that last race just came back to win again. Top pick. Also using the deserving favorite which is #6 Fiona which tumbles down the class all the way to the bottom to 2,500 from 8,000. His effort two back should win this event easily.

Ace Up Our Sleeve to Cash

Hola amigos. Back after a tough day at the track yesterday. Yesterday was one of those days where it made me feel like "I give up , I quit". But refreshed for today after some overnight rain and ready to take a shot at the card today at los alamitos. 3 thoroughbred events in the early pick 4 for tonight with a first post set for 5pm pacific. Let's get to it.

Race 1: Two deep to start the evening with #7 Tribal Magic which comes off the claim for high percent Jim Hanson barn. Making the 3rd start at los al does not hurt either. Top pick will be #8 Sudden Quest. Like the draw right outside the favorite and if he breaks well he should be able to cross over the field and take control of the pace with the 10lbs apprentice on board.

Race 2: Also going two deep in this race. Using the duo of #3 Criminal Intention and #7 Paseo de Ramon.
I like the switch in riders for Criminal Intention and should get a good stalking trip off the pace. Paseo de Ramon drops in class and switches back to winning rider two starts back and should be positioned closer to the pace this time out.

Race 3: Looks wide open to me so going 5 deep to Cover our play. Using #1 Mr.Valentino, #3 Indian Warrior, #4 Comic Thunder, #5 Gratis, and #7 Spot of Salt.

Race 4: Our Ace in the Race is #4 Jays Ace. Facing a weak bottom level field and comes off the best racing numbers in her career while also showing steady improvement each start. Comes in to the race with the best form of the entire field and only got beat a neck last out at the same level. Single. Short price expected.

Givemesumcorona to Celebrate

Getting ready for a night of racing at Los Alamitos race course. Good early pk4 on tap. All four races of the early pk4 are short quarter horse races no thoroughbred events in the sequence. If we get our single home in the first leg we might be able to celebrate a good price. Lets get to it:

Race #1 : I like the looks of #8 Givemesumcorona with an outside post and the services of leading rider Rodrigo Aceves. I was hoping for somewhat of a price on him but as of right now (55 min to post) he is bet down to 2/1. The word might be out on this runner with some early money on him. Lets hope he floats up in price at post time. Single.

Race 2: Two deep in this event to cover our ticket. Using #4 Bebop choice which comes off a bad trip last time out where he was the favorite. With a better trip he should be in the hunt. Top pick will be #5 Fighting City Hall which comes off a longer distance and now shortens to the same trip he won at two races back.

Race 3: Using #8 Bawdy which showed a great run in his debut despite breaking bad but he flew late to only be beaten a head. Gets outside post and should improve huge in his second time out. We might see a monster race so stay tuned. Also going to use our top choice #5 Cajun Mountain Gal which comes off a long layoff for trainer Paul Jones, who excells at horses off a layoff, this filly showed some run in her debut finishing 3rd. Shows some good workouts coming in and should run well fresh. Upset possibility.

Race 4: Looks wide open for this good field of claimers. All show some good form of late and can make a case for any of them. All button.

Back Class to Cash

Buenas Tardes Amigos!

It is a gloomy afternoon here in orange county as we approach tonight's racing card from los alamitos.
Nice program on tap with an early pick 4 sequence that features compact but competitive fields. Two thoroughbred races and two quarter horse races complete the early pk4 races 1 thru 4. Tonight, my play will rely on some back class to key my singles for my ticket. Lets's get to it:

Race 1: In this first thoroughbred event i am going to single #3 Highly Unusual. This gelding once upon a time was running 43 and change fractions for the half mile and finishing strong. Obviously he is no the same horse he used to be but he is dropping to the lowest level after two races off a long layoff. He finds a field lacking speed and it is now or never for him to take control out the gate and go as far as he can. I like the switch to jockey Chris Russell and should be aggressive out the gate. Single.

Race 2:  Four deep in this race to cover our ticket. Using #1 Ditched This Corona (dropping), #2 Making Nice(comes off a win), #4 Lousiana Flush(First off a claim and a win), and #6 Cryin The Blues (Is coming off a win).

Race 3: Also Four deep in this thoroughbred event. Using #1 Breezy Johnny which has showed speed before and gets the rail and switching to more aggressive rider. Top pick will be #2 Run Over You which exits a fast run race and should be stalking the pace and be within striking distance. Also using # 6 Warren's hot Stuff which is a claim-back for hot trainer and jockey combo. Finally closing it out with #7 Something Sonic which is also being claimed back for a leading barn is a very speedy gelding that could take them gate to wire with a controlled pace.

Race 4: To close it out we are going to single #4 Grey Diego which comes off a sharp win last time out in a fast time for the level while under a hand ride. This gelding has much past class and the slight bump up in class level should be within reach for this guy. Single to score.

Ticket ($16): 3/1,2,4,6/1,2,6,7/4

Mr Commando lets take it down

Hola Amigos,

Tonight's early pick 4 at los alamitos looks pretty much straight forward on paper with no real big upsets in line. But as always anything can happen and that why they run 'em. The most wide open race for me seems the last leg and that's where I love a horse and my single is there. Lets get to it:

Race 1: two deep to start. Using #1 Suwaalif and #7 Coastal Cathy. #1 just needs a good break to have a chance at this race. With a good break and better trip she should be in the hunt. #7 ran a great race last time despite a bad break. Fits at this level and switches to a more experienced rider.

Race 2: three deep to cover this race with #2 Cowboy Surfer, #6 Apache Station, and #7 Quarter Moon Action. #2 improved alot on her speed figure last time out and retains the services of leading rider. #6 comes off a win at a lower level while pulling away late so the added distance is within reach. #7 comes off a career best speed figure off a power full looking win. Dangerous.

Race 3: Three deep in this third leg. #4 Badget cat is coming first off the claim for Keith Craigmyle which is a 31% winning move for him. Blinkers on (25%), guce-craigmyle combo (33%). #5 Whizer is also from the craigmyle barn and he is making his second start at los al and his second start off the layoff. Finally throwing in #7 Comic Thunder which comes off a long layoff since may of 2011 but shows two solid drills leading up to this.

Race 4: This race looks very tough on paper with this solid seven horse field running for a claiming tag of 10k. Either you spread or you take a stand. I take a stand and single a horse that I love in this spot. #3 Mr Commando. Has shown a terrific late kick but has been unlucky out the gate. With a clean break on the field I think he will coast home a winner. Single

Chasing the Carryover 45k los al

Pk6 time!
Lets take a shot at the sequence today starting in race 5. $48 play:

Race  5: 1,5
Race  6: 3,6
Race  7: 1
Race  8: 2
Race  9: 1,2,4
Race 10: 2,7

My single in race 7 #1 Outtodustyou is a Consistent gelding that always fires and is back at the same level of back to back wins. The added 30 yards should benefit this guy after getting fractious and bumped repeatedly last time and still getting up to win a nose.

My other single in race 8 #2 Rare Back . This gelding comes off a much longer race at 550 yards where he was in front almost every step of the way and got beat at the end by half a length. He finished 1 1/4 lengths clear of the third place finisher. He drops in class and shortens in distance. Single.

Good luck and lets take it down!

Los Al pk4 friday the 13th

Welcome to a new racing week highlighted tonight with a 10 race card that comes with a nice 45,000 carry over in the pk6 in races 5 thru 10. I will put together a pick 6 ticket up later tonight . Right now lets take a look at the pick 4. Small ticket tonight with 1 single.

Race 1: Two deep with #2 Perry's Jess Express and #5 A Kool Zoom. #2 comes off a small layoff and and drops in class. First time alex bautista which is a good angle. #5 is the deserving favorite and should be tough.

Race 2: Four deep in this leg. #1 Feature Jessie Gal , #2 Jennifer's Challenge, #3 Bonos Lucky Jeans, and #5 A Mere Lady. All four runner are tough. If we can beat the favorite we should find some value.

Race 3: Two deep in this thoroughbred event. #6 Sister Lucy and #7 Bar Room Gal. Sister Lucy comes off a sharp win after showing terrific early speed and holding on at the end. Should be able to make the lead again and take them as far as she can. #7 has many angles going her way. 3rd off the lay off, second start at los al, and top rider sticks, and also had a troubled trip last out.

Race 4: Single to close out our pick 4. #5 Dynasty Rules comes off the same race as two other runners in this race. This colt earned a highest number out last time compared to the rest of the field. I like his post between two slow breakers. Should clear and coast home. Only making his 4th lifetime start.

Pick 4 ticket $16: 2,5/1,2,3,5/6,7/5

2 Throughbreds 2 Singles

Good betting card today on tap for los alamitos. 10 Race card highlighted by the first GI of the meet for quarter horses. Big pick six carryover of almost 25,000 up for grabs tonight starting in race 5. But first, we have a good early pick 4 sequence in races 1 thru 5. Lets get some bankroll to invest in to the pick six. Small pick 4 ticket tonight as I will focus my bankroll for the pick six.
Let's get to it:

Race 1: We start with a single right off the bat. #4 Seattleinspiration is coming out of a good race. Should be positioned close to the lead within strikin distance or if not in the lead. Like the odds. Taking a shot and single.

Race 2: This quarter horse event at 330 yards looks like could have a potential upsetter looming. Could probably make a case for the majority of them so we are going to try and catch a prize by going with the all button.

Race 3: Different night, same formula and hoping for same result. Last night trainer Charles Treece won with a similar move last night with jockey Ramon Guce. Tonight they claimed #8 Top Torero for 5k and drop him for a lower level. Top has enough speed to battle it out on the lead but I like his outside post to be able to establish position. Single.

Race 4: Closing out our pick 4 we like two horses only. #1 Very Sassy which comes off a win at the same level and should be tough once again with the inside post. Also using #5 Runs for Cash, which also comes off a win at a lower level but with a strong equibase figure. Retains red-hot Rodrigo Aceves in the irons and takes a small class jump. Dangerous.

Ticket recap $16 : 4/All/8/1,5

I will be on site tonight and will await to see how the track is playing to analyze the pk6. Give me a follow on twitter @LosPonies for my pick6 play for tonight's carry over. Good luck!

Kellys Lass is a Free Pass

Hola Amigos, tonight's early pick 4 has some odds on morning line favorites in races 2 and 3 that I believe are in danger of getting beat. Race 4 to close out the pick 4 is a tough allowance race with some good looking runners. Good card, good fields, good wagering options and hoping for good payouts. Let's get to the early pick 4.

Race 1: Right off the bat I am going to single #1 Kelleys Lass, this filly ran a good race from the same post last time out and made up about a length of ground in last yards to only get beat by a head. She's back at the same level, is making her third start off the layoff and has shown ability in her few lifetime starts. Has improvement potential and that makes her dangerous. Single.

Race 2: Two deep in this thoroughbred event. #8 Grand Topper was claimed last out for 5k and is now dropping to the 2k level and gets the services of leading rider. He is going to be low odds at post time but I am not all that confident on him. Will be also using #5 Captain Shawn D which showed a good run last time when angling wide in the stretch after showing some run behing horses. Only got beat half a length for second and with a better showing should be right there at the end.

Race 3: We have another odds on favorite in #8 Frankly First Ace, this gelding showed good efforts in his first two starts but is now coming off a long layofff since june. He was a debut winner (but got DQ'd) which tell us he runs well fresh but I cannot trust him off that slow workout leading up to this race. Will be also using #3 The King Coliman and #7 Ana GJ to try and get by this race and beat the favorite for some value.

Race 4: To close our ticket is a tough allowance race in which we go four deep. All have shown ability and should improve. Using #1 One Famous Ferragamo, #3 First Prize Habit, #4 What a Zoomer, and #8 Fires Kash.

Ticket $24 : 1/5,8/3,7,8/1,3,4,8

The Princess is the Key

Hola amigos, tonight we start the week of racing here at los alamitos. 10 race program with a great card all around. We expect a nice pick 4 payout and also will be tackling that pick 6 carryover tonight. Let's get to our pick 4 play for tonight:

Race 1: In this first leg of the pick 4 we are going two deep to start. I like the two horses to the outside of field. #9 Catalina Czech looked like a winner midway through the stretch last time after a great break out the gate, only to be edged out at the end and run a good second. Also using #10 Solo Senor taking a slight drop and getting the services of top rider Rodrigo Aceves. With the outside draw and good break should be good to go.

Race 2: I loved #5 Princess Ryan last time out that the 5k level and almost got it home after flying late and getting beat a head for the money. Now drops to the 2k level and gets the call of Charlton which has been riding all the good stock for trainer Craigmyle. That was her first start at los al for this filly and with the second start generally horses seem to improve. Should show more speed and stay closer to the pace and finish good to make this a winning single for us.

Race 3: In this 3rd leg we are going 3 deep. Using #1 Cilantro Chick which was the favorite last time out at this level and finished 3rd after getting bumped at the start from the rail post. Once again draws the rail and with a good break could clear the field and run better. Also using #4 Moon valley Babe which comes off a good looking maiden win going away at the end under a hand ride. The 30 extra yards today should fit this 4yo filly really well. Finally closing this race with our top pick #9 Pussy Cat Doll. This mare ran a bang up second last time out after lugging in and getting bumped while still finishing half a length clear of the third place finisher last time.

Race 4: To close out our pick 4 we are going four deep in this final leg. #2 Gc Blondie comes off a nose win last out at this same level. #6 Scare Down flew to a good looking win last time out after being far back at the start. 8# Chulo J just keeps winning at a price and comes of back to back wins. Also using #9 Cc Senor Cameo which comes off a slight layoff and retains the services off top jockey plus, he's lightly raced and could improve. Dangerous at a price.

Thoroughbred Thursday- Pick 5 at Santa Anita

Gotta love the 50 cent pick 5 wager at Santa Anita Park, no matter what the outcome it seems to always pay very good. Just find a couple prices here and there and you are already looking at a payout in the thousands.
Here is my early pk5 play for today:

Race 1: Baffert has two entries here and i am going to single #6 Sir allison with martin garcia aboard and i like this 3yo las race here at santa anita where he showed good speed going 7 furlongs. Cuts back in distance today to 6 furlongs. Gone.

Race 2: 3 deep in this event to cover my ticket with #2 lodi red, #4 its no unusual and #7 gatheratthealtar.
lodi red is my top pick off consistent efforts but like its no unusual third off the layoff and getting the services of Garret Gomez. Gatheratthealter goes first off the claim for baffert. Baffert doesent usually claim and when he does we have to take notice.

Race 3: most wide open race in my opinion. Four deep to cover my play. #1 Great Rising Star, #2 tiz a trip, #7 Fordham road, and #8 silver dragon.

Race 4: two deep in this event with #7 Dream Caught which is dropping in class, second start, good works over santa anita dirt, and rosario sticks with mount for a low profile barn. Also using #9 Showmethemoneyjim which is a first time starter for the Jeff Mullins barn. Mullins is always dangerous but this time i like the earlier works showing for this 3yo and i like that apprentice Eswan Flores is riding.

Race 5: To close out our ticket I am going two deep. #1 last sting has some consistent efforts at this level and the rail draw with the club house turn being close after the start gives some advantage to this guy who has Joel Rosario aboard. My top pick however is #4 Blue samurai, i like his last couple of races and like Gomez taking the call for a hot barn.

Fast Tracking to the Wager Window

Tonight's Early pick 4 at los alamitos seems like a double to me. I have two singles in my pick 4 sequence and then I am going to spread in another leg. Many times we try to beat the favorite no matter what and that ends up costing me the winning ticket because i could of spread in other legs instead of trying to beat the favorite. So tonight's strategy is to single and take a stand on who i like and hope for prices in the other legs.
Remember, today's first post at Los Alamitos is 5pm. Let's get to it:

Race 1: I am gonna start off by singling #8 Jmj Chick which is the 6/5 morning line favorite. This filly has been consistent in all her races and has improved her numbers in each and every start. Has lost 3 close photos in each of her last 3 starts and now takes a class drop and cutting her claiming price in half. Since a low profile but very capable jockey is named to ride, lets hope for higher off odds at post time.

Race 2: I love #8 Fast Tracking here in this spot. Trainer Charles Treece goes 1st off the claim and drops this gelding from 5k to 2.5k level. In addition, Hot-Riding Eulices Gomez gets the call back aboard this newly turned 4yo son of Iron Cat. Should improve only making his 3rd lifetime start and gets a good outside post. Single.

Race 3: Since i singled back to back in races 1 & 2, i am going to spread in this bottom level claimer at 300 yards that looks wide open. ALL.

Race 4: To close out the pk4 we a have a maiden special at 300 yards. Some good looking horses in this race with lots of potential improvement. I will be going two deep. Top choice will be #3 El Baia coming second off the layoff where he was the favorite last time out but got pinballed at the break and showed run past the wire. Also using #8 Fountainebleau for Champion Trainer Paul Jones. This gelding comes off a long layoff since april but shows some solid works recently and in his debut he was bet down to favoritism. Also adding lasix for the first time and gets a good outside post.

Good Economic Ticket ($16): 8/8/all/3,8
